My little Bee coordinated a trip to Lakeland the week before my birthday to pick out some gifts for me. He had to get the little individual silicone loaf tins so that I could make mini loaves of bread and mini lemon drizzle cakes.
They make the cutest little loaves, as you can see! And they are perfect for people like me, who can't get enough of that lovely rich crust!

Easter Biscuits

This week I baked Easter Biscuits, a traditional West Country recipe found in my National Trust Teatime Baking book. These lightly spiced biscuits are delicious with a cup of tea and are incredibly moreish!

Breakfast Smoothies

Smoothies have become a breakfast staple for me over the last few weeks. I usually just throw whatever is at hand into the blender, but this one has become one of the most regular. I tend to work in 80g servings, the recommended portion of your 5 a day. I like to add about 80ml of water to loosen it up, and if it is a little tart , I will add in a teaspoon of honey.
My Smoothies join me on my journey to work each morning, giving me a fantastic on the go breakfast.

Canons Ashby, Northamptonshire

For Mother's Day lunch, we trekked down to Canons Ashby, a beautiful National Trust property near Daventry, Northamptonshire. After a pleasant stroll in the spring sunshine, we went to see what the cafe had to offer. We gladly ordered the two platters available, a Cheese Trencher and the Deli Board. At £17 each for a sharing size platter, it was on the pricey side but what a fantastic treat. The five of us enjoyed every last bite of the lunch, and it was well worth the price tag and we weren't peckish until well into the evening.

Cheese Trencher
Creamy cheddar, stilton, salad, homemade bread rolls, chutney, vinegrette, homemade coleslaw, grapes,  apples and strawberries.

Deli Board
Delicious slices of ham, homemade local pate, crusty bread, balsamic and oil for dipping, olives, homemade coleslaw, salad, grapes strawberries.

The National Trust plays a big part in our lives, especially the cafes and tea rooms. Please visit my sister blog, Heidi-Elizabeth, Tales from our Everyday, for more of our NT adventures.
